This was a natural trait for an Irish-born child surrounded by talented parents and a loving family. Maureen made her entrance into the sanctity of family on August 17, 1920, at Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita LIlburn FitzSimons, the mother of her. She was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin business, and held shares of the Irish Shamrock Rovers, a soccer team. Maureen was the second child of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen did well in sports and was a lover of rough play. This passion and her gift in performing was astonishing. As evidenced by getting almost every Feis award for drama and performances in the theater that her nation offered. When she was 14, she had been admitted into the Abbey Theater, where her goal was to study the art of opera and classical theatre.
